Rainbow Falls

Imagine hiking 2.7 miles and hearing the gentle sounds of a flowing mountain stream throughout your walk. The LeConte Creek is always within hearing distance of the trail to Rainbow Falls. It runs down from Mt. LeConte and into the Little Pigeon River in Gatlinburg.

The Rainbow Falls Trail is a 5.4 miles roundtrip moderate hike. Along the way you see spectacular sites of mountainsides, streams, bridges, rocks (both large and small), and various wildlife.

Rainbow Falls is a 75 ft. drop. In the wetter months, the waterfall is a beautiful rush of water that cascades over. There is a sitting log at the base of the waterfall that provides a wonderful view.

We were fortunate to visit the Falls when there was enough water for a waterfall, yet little enough water for us to stand atop the Falls. From this viewpoint, you can see the treetops and the majestic mountainsides in the distance.

Directions to Rainbow Falls:

Go East on US 321 and turn right onto Airport Road. Once on Airport Road go 1.8 miles and turn right onto Cherokee Orchard Road. Go 3.9 miles on Cherokee Orchard Road and there will be the Rainbow Falls trailhead. Rainbow Falls is then 2.7 miles from this point.
