Cosby cabins? - A Great Smoky Mountain Vacation Choice
A Cosby cabin rental is a great choice for a location from which to base your Smokies vacation.
From it's beginning in 1797, the county suffered from lack of unity with settlers and Indians sharing the same mountain home. The Anglo - Saxons, the German - Dutch and the Huguenot people, differing in speech, origin and religion, united for independence and grouped themselves into distinctive communities, thus forming Cosby, Hartford, Edwina, Del Rio, Parrottsville, Bybee, Carson Springs, Dutch Bottoms, and Rankin.
At the turn of the 20th century, Newport became a bustling commercial and transportation center. In 1867, the arrival of the railroad and building of the depot are the reason today for the location of the county seat on the Pigeon River. First named War Ford, the completion of the Cincinnati, Cumberland Gap, and the Charleston Railroad, Clifton soon outgrew Newport in size. In 1884, the county seat was removed from Newport on the French Broad River to Clifton on the Pigeon River. With the moving of the county seat, Clifton was renamed Newport.
Today Cocke County continues it's diversity with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee National Forest, French Broad River, TVA Lakes and the Pigeon River. Recreation includes hiking, camping, picnicking, fishing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, kayaking, skiing, and golfing. The Smoky Mountain Information Center, located in the Rhyne-Valentine Cultural Center in Cosby, serves as both a Welcome Center and a General Store. Come see what Cosby Cabins have to offer!
